The Dimension 27.5 is the top of Ridgeback's kids' range, built for riders who are, in most ways, already riding a grown-up bike. Shimano's 8-speed Essa wide-range gearing takes real hills in its stride as well as flat stretches, built for covering serious distance.

For most families, this is the last exchange before moving on to an adult bike entirely.

The Dimension 20 is where gears properly arrive. Shimano's 7-speed setup, controlled by a single trigger shifter, gives a child their first real experience of choosing a gear to match the terrain rather than just pedalling harder.

At 9.3kg it's a noticeable step up from the single-speed bikes below it, built for longer rides and steeper hills than before. Most riders are ready for the 8-speed Dimension 24 by around age 8.

The Dimension 24 steps up to Shimano's 8-speed gearing, giving a wider spread between an easy low gear for hills and a quicker top gear for flat stretches. Locking-collar grips keep hands secure through faster, more adventurous riding.

At 10.2kg it's the heaviest bike in the range so far, scaled for a bigger, stronger rider genuinely covering ground rather than riding round the block. Most children move on to the Dimension 27.5 from around age 11.

The Dimension 16 is the next size in Ridgeback's single-speed line, for a child who's past the first wobbles and riding with real confidence. It keeps the same simple, gearless drivetrain as the 14, just scaled up for a taller rider, at 7.6kg.

Puncture-resistant tyres mean fewer stops for flats, which matters once a child starts covering real distance under their own power. Most riders move on to the geared Dimension 20 by around age 6.

The Dimension 14 is Ridgeback's entry point into pedal bikes, built for a child who's just stepped off a balance bike and onto two pedals for real. Single-speed by design, so there's nothing to shift and nothing to get wrong while the basics of pedalling and steering are still new.

The EXPLORE 6 is as big as woom's kids' range goes — a full 26" bike for riders who are, in most ways, riding a grown-up bike already. It carries the same lightweight-first philosophy through to the top of the range, at just over 11kg despite the size, with multi-speed gearing built for real distance. For most families, this is the last exchange in the plan before moving on to an adult bike entirely.

By 24", your child is riding a genuinely capable bike — the EXPLORE 5 is built for longer routes, more varied terrain, and a rider who's outgrown the "learning" stage entirely. Still built to woom's lightweight standard at around 9kg, so the size increase doesn't come with the sluggishness of a heavier frame, with multi-speed gearing to handle real hills and distance rather than just neighbourhood loops.

Same size stage as the GO 4, but built for a different kind of riding: the EXPLORE 4 trades the GO 4's road-focused setup for disc brakes and a frame suited to trails, gravel, and less predictable terrain. Seven gears give the range to handle inclines off the beaten path, and the stopping power of discs holds up better than rim brakes when things get muddy. Worth choosing over the GO 4 for a family that rides more off-road than on it.

The GO 4 is where gears enter the picture. The GO 2 is the bridge from balance bike to real cycling: same size wheel as many balance bikes, same low standover and light frame, but now with pedals and a freewheel — meaning the pedals don't spin backwards and catch their legs out while they're getting used to the motion.
